Wound Care Technician
Working under supervision of a physician or registered nurse, the wound care technician specialises in the care of chronic or slowly healing wounds, such as those caused by diabetes, neuropathy, arthritis and immobility. He develops and implements treatment programs using advanced healing techniques such as the hyperbaric chamber, using high pressure to improve oxygen saturation of tissues, and is trained in the use of wound dressing materials. The technician participates in patient education and demonstrates techniques to family carers in order to improve home care. He assesses wound depth and severity and keeps a daily record of treatments used and progress made, reports to the physician and assists in minor surgical procedures used to remove dead tissues.
