Sterile Processing Technician
Sterile supplies are used in large quantities every day in all medical facilities, and most are supplied by the sterile processing technician. The technician uses a variety of sterilising techniques, including heat sterilisation for metal surgical equipment, gas sterilisation for bandages and draping materials and chemical solutions. He monitors the sterilising process and assures quality control, keeps an inventory of equipment sterilised and assists in the supply of sterile materials to wards and departments. He is responsible for the correct labelling of sterile supplies and dates of expiry, and carries out stocktaking activities in sterile supply stores.
