Recreational Therapist
The recreational therapist uses group physical activities, games and sports, to encourage patients under going rehabilitation to become more active. The therapist works with individuals and groups, identifies patient goals and cooperates with patients to build a treatment program. He may help patients who have become paraplegic to start playing basketball in their wheelchair, direct swimming pool games for children with muscle disorders, use ball games to help those with coordination difficulties, or perform many other activities. The therapist is responsible for implementing the recreational program, keeping a record of patient progress and reporting to other health care professionals.
