Physicians Assistant
The assistant works under supervision of the physician and can perform many of the tasks normally carried out by doctors. He can take medical histories and examine patients, order blood tests and x-rays and interpret them. He can diagnose diseases and prescribe medications, and often treats minor wounds which require stitching. Sometimes he is responsible for running a clinic, conferring with the physician when necessary, or may be required to make house calls to examine patients. Some assistants specialise in surgery, and may be present during operations, helping the surgeon with routine techniques.
