Mental Health Technician
Also called psychiatric aide, the technician works with patients either hospitalised in mental health institutions or in the community. Under the supervision of psychiatrists or registered nurses he implements therapies and activities designed to help the patient adjust to living in a community setting, and assists the patient to gain the skills needed to manage areas such as money, purchasing food and clothes and keeping his living area clean. The technician may also interview family members and provide help in returning the patient back into the family group, may host group therapy sessions and give behaviour modification counseling.
