Horticultural Therapist

Growing flowers, vegetables and fruit is one of the branches of occupational therapy. Horticultural therapists work in varied settings, from greenhouses and outdoor gardens to window boxes in hospital wards, and involve patients suffering from emotional problems in caring for plants. The activities they offer may include growing all kinds of plants, using fruits grown to make jams and preserves for patients, pressing flowers and drying herbs. They work in psychiatric institutions and long term care facilities, nursing homes and correctional facilities, and are usually part of the multidisciplinary health care team, report on progress with patients and keep records of activities.
