Exercise Physiologist
The science of exercise, a new branch of physiology, developed to give athletes the most efficient training possible. The exercise physiologist uses advanced techniques to measure muscle strength, heart lung capacity and endurance, and educates the athlete in methods of attaining training goals. He may also work with patients undergoing rehabilitation after cardiac surgery, or with the chronically handicapped, helping them to gain muscle control or improve muscle tone. Exercise physiologists work as sports instructors, coaches and program instructors, in education and in hospitals and clinics. Some work in research developing sports equipment, others are employed by the military and as private health consultants.
