Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
The sonographer uses an ultrasound machine to produce images of internal organs. He works in close contact with patients, and needs good communication skills as well as patience and an empathetic attitude. He makes ultrasounds by using a transducer which he presses to the skin of the patient while images are received on a screen. He is responsible for obtaining relevant patient history, uses independent judgement to carry out efficient screening under directions of a physician, and adds his findings to the patient record. Sonographers work in hospitals, clinics and private physicians practices and may work shifts and holidays.
