Dance Therapist
Sometimes people with severe communication difficulties respond well to dance therapy. The therapist is usually a dancer who has chosen to specialise in the field of therapy, and works together with a multidisciplinary health care team which includes a psychiatrist, social workers, nurses and other therapists. Most dance therapists work in hospitals or residential institutes, and treat people with emotional disorders or deficiencies, helping them to overcome emotional barriers by using rhythmical movement. The therapist is responsible for supervising dance sessions, ensuring patient safety and reporting results of dance sessions at meetings of the health care team. Some dance therapists work in private studios, and usually treat children with coordination difficulties, or adults during rehabilitation.
