Audiologist
Assessment of hearing acuity is carried out by an audiologist. When hearing loss is diagnosed, he will evaluate the amount and type of loss, and present treatment alternatives. Often he will work closely with speech therapists to improve communication skills of people with impaired hearing and to individually tailor hearing aids. The audiologist is involved as part of a larger team in counselling patients and their families and helping them to deal with hearing loss, teaching techniques such as lip reading. He may work in a hospital, private clinic, school or in research, and sometimes works with people with multiple disorders for whom hearing loss is part of their communication problem.
